Emily’s Lebanese Deli, 12 August 2018

My coworker raves about this place so I figured I would check it out today, on my own, since GF informed me that she’s not down with Lebanese food. No gyros or shawarmas here, but they did have a kibbi sandwich and a kafta burger. I asked the guy which he’d recommend and he said the kafta burger.
This is exactly what it looks like: Ground beef grilled to well with “onions, parsley, & spices” according to the menu, topped with tomato slices. The guy brought out a ramekin of toum and warned me that the garlic was pretty strong.

Ha. Ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
“Strong garlic.”

And I’m not trying to front but the garlic wasn’t really anything. I basically live off of garlic.
Anyway, the bread was light and airy and took a backseat to the sweetness of the tomato that was propped up by the rich umami of the meat. The tabouli I had on the side was crisp and refreshing on a hot summer day but I didn’t manage to finish it. I used the pita the guy brought to me to finish up the toum.

“Did somebody say ‘tomb’?”

Yes yes, we all get it. Any time Charlie jokes about garlic, he has to pull up that one image from The Monster Squad.
Anyway, Emily’s is legit. If they can make a burger that satisfies me with just a little bit of basically garlic and tomato, they’re doing something right. (Hint: It’s called seasoning your goddamned meat and not over powering it with four condiments and topping it with what one would be legally required to call a salad.) (Or a slaw.) No catsup, mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, onions (technically), lettuce…

Yes yes yes, anytime Charlie mentions lettuce he has to bring up that image from PhoneShop. We’re all quite amused.

Anyway, they made a burger without all the stuff that’s usually pushed on you at a burger joint and they made a better burger. And they give that shit to you with tabouli. A fucking healthy option. Pretty soon, your hair will be shiny and you’ll have six pack abs.
Go give them your money.
